Zero Waste Week: ESGmark® members helping you tackle waste

September 2024

Zero Waste Week is an annual campaign taking place in the first full week of September to encourage individuals, communities, and businesses to adopt more sustainable lifestyle and consumption habits by reducing waste and reusing resources.

Unsustainable use of the world’s resources is the primary force behind the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity and nature loss, and pollution. It is clear that we must shift from overconsumption to more conscious, sustainable consumption habits. By shifting away from a "take, make, dispose" mindset and instead embracing circular economy principles by reusing, repurposing, repairing, and recycling, you can save money while helping conserve resources, minimise pollution, and reduce landfill waste.

Reducing waste is crucial for meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Everyone can take action to adopt a low-waste lifestyle, and supporting businesses with process in place to help keep materials out of landfill will go a long way to improve your environmental impact.

Here are a few examples of ESGmark® members helping you buy more responsibly through their zero-waste business models and initiatives:

GreenGlamour is shaking up the luxury fashion world with their rental model, which makes spoiling yourself accessible while reducing the amount of unused clothing that ends up in landfill.

Forest Distillery whisky and gin is made using locally sourced ingredients and sustainable materials to minimise environmental impact. Their unique ceramic bottles are designed to be repurposed or refilled through Forest Distillery’s refill initiative. They also repurpose their bottles into beautiful candles which make great gifts!

Lavender & Lemon handcrafts safe alternatives to nasty chemical cleaning products, using eco-friendly ingredients. Their products are packaged in beautiful aluminium bottles which can be refilled and reused through their Return & Refill scheme!

Ada Dakin takes a thoughtful and innovative approach to zero-waste fashion design. Lovingly upcycled by Founder Sophie Dakin from silky soft fabric remnants, Ada Dakin’s Chloe rosette can be styled as a choker, belt, or wrist corsage.
