ESGmark® recognised in Lar Housing 2020 Annual Review
17 March 2021
Lar Housing Trust was set up in 2015 to help tackle Scotland’s housing crisis. The charity supports people trapped in a real-estate limbo by being unable to afford private sector rents, yet also faced with an unrealistic opportunity to access social housing. By providing homes across Scottish communities at mid-market rents, Lar gives people the opportunity to live in affordable, secure and stable housing.
In their recently published 2020 annual review, Lar cites their pride at being awarded the prestigious ESGmark® certification this year, recognising the progress they are making in sustainability practices.
Commenting upon receiving the ESGmark®, Chief Executive of Lar Anne Leslie said: “Using sustainable products and services is key to how Lar builds and thereafter maintains its homes. I am delighted that Lar is part of the ESGmark® community and hope to learn much from the other members, so that we can continue to ensure that Lar is at the forefront of sustainable design.”
On top of providing crucial social support in their communities, within the past year Lar have created several energy-efficient developments on brownfield sites and have actively sought to reuse materials where possible or choose those with low whole life environmental impact.
Emma Beardsley, Director of Community Membership at ESGmark, added “As the first charity to be awarded the ESGmark®, we are proud to have Lar Housing Trust as part of our community and to officially recognise the excellent work they are doing for both people and planet. We look forward to working with and supporting Lar on their ESG journey”
With a rapidly growing network of cross-industry members, the ESGmark® community is going from strength to strength. We look forward to continuing our successful partnership with Lar Housing, alongside our other global members, to continually drive better environmental, social and governance practices.
